Slavery Influence

Music has always been a way to express yourself and how you feel. It has always affected the people who hear it.  In 1865- 1877 slaves used music to express themselves and let their masters know that no matter how badly they were treated they were still human beings. The song that we chose from this era was “Go Down Moses” the is about how Moses went down and freed his people from pharaoh. I interpreted it as they want Moses to come to the plantations and repeat what he did to his people for them since his people were slaves until he freed them they hope that that will happen to them.

Great Depression opens up Blues

Music has changed its form many times in the 1920’s-1930’s the Blues was the main form of music that they listened to. We chose “When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again” because it was talking about the sad times of the war and how when people came back they were not treated as veterans but as a nobody. They were only treated good when the first got home like in the song how it says When Johnny comes marching home again Hurrah! Hurrah! We’ll give him a hearty welcome then Hurrah! Hurrah! The men will cheer and the boys will shout The ladies they will all turn out And we’ll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home.” It is saying how happy they will be when the soldiers come home but they are only happy on day and the rest of the days after that it’s just like a normal day.

Freedom for our Folk

imagesIn the 1950’s and 1960’s there was a lot of social discomfort between races and sexes. The song that we picked to show how some people change their social views after this song is “This Land is Your Land” it is a song about equality for everyone. In the end of this song it says “One bright sunny morning in the shadow of the steeple By the Relief Office I saw my people — As they stood hungry,” he never says what color or sex they are he just say my people and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t just white people who were hungry but all kinds of races, ages, and sex that need food to feed their families or themselves. It also says this land is everyone’s, people realized what is really meant and started treating everyone equally, however; most people didn’t change their views.

The song influenced many people and also put political people in bad place to listen to the people or to keep the war going and upset the public.

Blow the Trumpet

yg-macklemore-g-eazy-fuck-donald-trump-00For our modern day song we chose F*** Donald Trump we chose this because it is showing hatred towards Donald Trump and saying how there are many bad things about him and how no one should vote for him in the election. The song is also confronting racism and discrimination in today’s world. This song was meant to make racism and discrimination more noticeable and also to show that Donald Trump himself is racist. The song could be seen as a pro Hillary Clinton song. It influenced people to not vote for Donald Trump it also probably  influenced Donald Trump to not be so discriminating and racist during his speeches. This song was heard by many of today’s youth and it most likely influenced them to not like Donald trump. It is also a catchy song.
